최근 속옷의 겉옷화 성향이 세계적으로 높아지면서 속옷디자인에 많은 관심이 몰리고 있다. 하지만 속옷디자이너가 되기 위한 아카데믹한 전문과정이 아직 없으며, 언더웨어 기업에서도 다양한 경험을 가진 전문적인 속옷디자이너는 부족한 상황이다. 전문적인 속옷디자이너가 되기 위해서 세계적으로 알려진 DMU의 학부 과정은 그 명성만큼이나 세계적인 디자이너가 되기 위한 길을 열어줄 것이다.

De Montfort University의 Contour Fashion은 세계적으로 유일한 속옷디자인 학부 과정으로 Lingerie, Underwear, bodywear, swimwear, performance sportswear 등을 다루고 있다. 이 학과의 졸업생은 높은 취업률을 보이고 있으며 졸업 이후 Ted Baker, Lepel, Fleur T, Debenhams, New Look, John Lewis, Triumph, Abercrombie, Fitch 등과 같은 기업에 취업을 하고 있으며, 미국, 호주, 홍콩 등 다양한 다른 국가에서의 취업률 또한 높다. 특별히 재학생들의 작품은 Riding Award, Ace Style award 등과 같은 국제 디자인 대회에서 많은 수상을 하고 있다. 수업은 속옷디자인에 따른 강의, 그룹토의, 개인 튜토리얼, 세미나 등을 통해 실용적인 학문 위주의 프로젝트 수업을 이루고 있다. 3년간의 프로그램은 아래와 같다.

이 과정은 패션과 속옷디자인을 함께 공부할 수 있는 유일한 과정으로, 졸업 이후 졸업생들은 Crystal Martin, Jeweltex, Aura, Enamore, Tesco, George등등의 회사에서 일을 하고 있다. 재학생들은 정기적으로 Eurojerwey, Gymphlex, Headworx, Slix, Jersey Lomilena등의 회사와 연계하여 일을 배울 수 있는 기회가 있다. 재학생들은 꾸준히 각종 세계적인 대회에서 입상을 하고 있는데, Wearable Arts Bizarre Bra(NewZealand), Norrona Sportswear(Norway), Elle Levis competition, Zogg’s Triathlon design과 같은 대회에서 수상을 하고 있다. 학부 3년간의 프로그램은 아래와 같다.
