Goldsmiths, University of London teamed up with world-renowned advertising agency M&C Saatchi, and industry pioneers Google, YouTube and Motorola, to host a 48-hour event dedicated to creating and publicising short films.
Six film crews, comprised of creatives from M&C Saatchi, students from the Department of Media and Communications and the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE), and supported by mentors from YouTube and Google, had just two days to demonstrate their creative filmmaking skills to create a chapter of a short film.
Each team made their film using two Motorola Android mobile devices, lights and a laptop. Students from the Department of Theatre and Performance featured in each of the films. The teams have now uploaded their videos to YouTube with two weeks to self-promote their films, drive views and win the judges' favour.

Filmhack took place 28-29 June at M&C Saatchi. This is the second collaboration between Goldsmiths and M&C Saatchi, following the successful Game5hack in March, a 48-hour event dedicated to making and developing interactive games.
Lisa Thomas, CEO of M&C Saatchi said: "We have a wealth of creative skillsets in the building, including film promotion expertise. This expertise, coupled with the fresh and talented film-makers of the future from Goldsmiths, as well as the mentoring from some of the best creative minds in the creative industries, is a powerful blend, and is guaranteed to produce some excellent films. Working with YouTube ensures those films will have an audience and allows our teams to flex their promotional muscles."
Robert Smith, Convenor of MA Filmmaking, said: "The skill of collaboration is vital to success in any filmmaking process and this innovative task will help our students further develop those skills. Technological advances have revolutionised the way in which film content is being used and made, so this is a brilliant opportunity for our students to be working with professionals from industry leaders such as M&C Saatchi, Google and YouTube."
